Dr. Brandy Brooks and I just finished our introduction of a more engaging and interactive approach to #mentalhealthMondays.
Mental wellness has always been a huge part of the #javaCafe. From the beginning, we worked and continue to work to highlight the importance of maintaining our mental wellness and addressing mental illness by bringing different types of mental health providers to chat with us.
We named Mondays as the day to do our weekly check-in. The check-in model is simple: “Think about how you’re feeling right now. How was last week? What was the weekend like? We ask viewers to “drop one word in the comments”. The one word should describe how their feeling or their “mental health status” now, based on the previous.
It’s been an impactful time of reflection and engagement. Not only via the #javaFam, community-oriented, wrap-around peer support by the viewers, but the information and guidance we receive from the professionals have and will continue to be amazing.
On today’s show, we chatted with Dr. Brandy about her break over the holidays as well as about her and I’s intentional approach to increasing the impact of #mentalhealthMondays.
Over the next few weeks, our topics will be centered on “Relationships”. Relationships with self, others, interpersonal partner relationships are just a few topics, we’ll from now until the end of February. Towards the end of the series, we’ll look back at how our relationships with our history as a Black and Brown people impact us and well end with how our relationship with our past influences our present and future.
Get ready, because there is homework. Today’s assignment:
Due Monday, January 31, 2022 | 9:00 AM
