SAY HER NAME: DEJAH NICHOLE JENKINS-MINUS

Tonight, the community came together to acknowledge the life, vibrancy, and gift of Dejah Nichole Jenkins-Minus (February 15, 1999 – November 25, 2021).

Dejah was killed because of intimate partner violence, but she was more than that.

Dejah’s Mom said she was a

“very uplifting young lady.”

Dejah’s family is committed to ensuring her death is not in vain. They wanted to make sure the community is aware of the issues of intimate partner violence, trauma, and the resources available to address them.

See some of the resources shared in last night’s tribute below: (Intimate partner violence and the traumatic impact are not limited to heterosexual intimate partnerships. All types of intimate partnerships are impacted, young people in all categories especially.  They are often unaware of the progressive “red flags” that lead to constant emotional and/or physical abuse.)

Dejah’s Mother LaToya, God Mother Theresa, and Mentor Keisha shared their pain and trauma. Intimate partner violence and the traumatic impact are not limited to heterosexual intimate partnerships. All types of intimate partnerships are impacted, young people in all categories especially.  They are often unaware of the progressive “red flags” that lead to constant emotional and/or physical abuse.

This is not the legacy of Dejah. They all talked about how funny she was, how motivated she was, and her being so ambitious. She wanted to drive at an early age, she got a job, went to driving school, and got on the road.

She participated in community and cultural programs like Friends of the Children, and the annual Boston Caribbean Festival as a masquerader. She was a Cheerleader with the local Dorchester Eagles Pop Warner Program, all while maintaining her financial stability. was recognized as a member of the National Honor Society, and a graduate of Boston Public Schools.

Dejah was a great friend, daughter, and Mom to her baby girl Dai’lani. (a trust fund via GoFundMe charitable account has been set up to support Dejah’s daughter’s upbringing by her grandparents and family, you can contribute below:
